Jesus reminds us that we should be thankful when good things happen to us. Leprosy was a very common disease at the time when Jesus was alive. It was a nasty skin disease that meant you could lose the feelings in your hands and feet. People were scared of getting it. They did not understand the disease and called anyone who had it “unclean”. Those who had leprosy were called lepers, and were forced to live in their own areas away from the people in the cities and towns. They could not stay with their families, have dinner with friends, or meet with others. They had to stay away from everyone.

One day, as Jesus was heading to Jerusalem, he entered a village where there were ten men who had leprosy. They stood at a distance, shouting to Jesus and asking him to heal them. Jesus told them to go to the priest in the Temple to show him they were clean and had no leprosy. As the men did that, they were instantly healed. However, only one of them came back to Jesus to thank him and God for the miracle. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?”

Sometimes we can become so focused on what is wrong that we forget what is good. The cupbearer should have helped Joseph as Joseph had helped him.
